STEP 5: VEGAN SKINCARE

Sadly, not all skincare and beauty products are vegan and cruelty-free but don't worry, you have plenty of options. If you are wary about jumping straight into being vegan, the world of vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics is a great way to start. Vegan makeup and skincare are products that do not contain any animal ingredients or derivatives including milk, honey, and beeswax. While it may sound intimidating to change your skincare and makeup products completely, when you start the change, you will notice it is actually easier than you would imagine. It all starts with being mindful of what goes into your products. While it can be a long process of trial and error to find what works for your skin, the results are more than worth the effort. I personally found that when I switched out my skincare products to vegan and cruelty-free products that my skin looked healthier and more radiant. With vegan and cruelty-free skincare and makeup being on the rise, lots of information can be found all over social media about specific brands. One of the first things you would want to do when shopping for vegan skincare is to look for proper certifications, if you have a specific brand or company you like using, check their website to see if they are FDA regulated, have labels that say all natural, vegan, vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, or not tested on animals. Another easy way to tell if a product is vegan or not is to check if they are sold in China. China’s law requires all products to be tested on animals so if the product or brand sells in China, there might be a small imprint that says no animal testing unless required despite marketing the products as cruelty-free. These brands I would not consider as vegan or cruelty-free. Give yourself time and be patient when trying to find the right products for yourself. It is a process so don’t beat yourself up if you make mistakes, everybody does!
